This is a powerful mini-tablet. Way better than any iPad out there. But it does have some flaws

So, I bought this post-recall NVidia Shield 16GB a while back, and have played around with it for some time now. First, let's start with the good: This thing is a beast, if you invest a little more into the tablet! The processor used is still pretty fast, and games zip on it. I tend to use mine with a Bellkin Mobile Wireless Keyboard (which also is pretty awesome), and it works pretty good as a mock Android laptop. The NVidia Grid is a nice streaming service that allows for PC gaming on stream, and the Twitch stream ability is a nice gimmick. Not everyone will care for that feature, but those who do like Twitching will find it to be a welcome addition. Now, for some of the bad parts: 16GB for internal storage? You've got to be kidding me, NVidia. Don't skimp there next time. Yes, I know, I can add a 128GB card to the tablet (and I have), but not everyone has that luxury. Definitely upgrade to the latest Android to enable syncing the Micro SD card to your internal memory. Bear in mind that your SD can't be used for anything else once you do, however. Another thing to nitpick? You'll definitely want to put a screen protector on immediately, as my screen now has a very feint chip on it. Hardly noticeable, but enough to annoy owners like me, who like to keep their gadgets in near-mint condition. Also? Like other NVidia Tablets, my tablet developed a hairline crack on a corner, without having been dropped. Not even once! So, there are some quality control issues that NVidia needs to address. Which reminds me, NVidia? I love your tablet. I don't, however, love your customer service, nor your policies, involving eBay sales of NEW TABLETS AND CONTROLLERS. Keep that up, and I'll just buy from someone else. Technically, this review, with all things considered, should be 3 1/2 stars. The hardware is nice, and what it can do is amazing, but some quality control issues and terrible customer service and policies brought down the score considerably. Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars. If you don't mind those problems though? Pick up an NVidia Shield and see for yourself, why this mini-tablet could be a winner for you.

    Best tablet ever!

Would have liked it to be 2 inches bigger with a bigger batter to play it more! I have an iPhone but I am now loving android. I'm never going back... Why does Microsoft Word take up 345 megabytes on an iPhone, but only 35mb on a tablet running android nougat?! I have no idea, but I like it. I used a 64GB microsd card in the slot and 80gb of my memory is so bountiful, I can barely fill it up. I've already downloaded around 5 console quality games, 5 arcade style games (air hockey, racing games) 30+ other apps, and i'm very satisfied with NVidia and Android OS!! This really is a do-it-all tablet. I am happy NVidia put out hardware that I can use. I was actually looking at game consoles and saw the Shield TV. I saw this tablet while googling "shield" for price comparing reasons and thought that I would try it for when I am bored at work but have access to wifi. I'm impressed!! I paired it with a magnetic bluetooth keyboard professional case/stand (Cooper touchpad executive) and i'd rather use this than my laptop. I actually was inspired enough to wrote my first book on it in a single day. PRO TIP: Buy the NVidia shield controller (2017 version) and you will be even more happy with your purchase. I feel bad for those who do not go "all in" when they buy things. I knew this was going to be good from the reviews. *People complained about this not coming with a USB cable, but the controller and keyboard case did, so i'm not worried! I love the battery length and watch movies without worrying about charging. The color clarity is beautiful. The quality is professional looking and smooth. Screen is easy to clean and wipe. Updates come regularly (in 2017). What else could you want in terms of a tablet? I hope to see more games ported to android. Can't wait to stream PC games to this!

Great for anything you want to do

I have extremely high standards with my electronics, and I love this tablet because it has the power to run every app; seriously. I have not found an app that this tablet cannot run, and I've looked. This is not to say it won't crash, because it does. However, get an app to free resources and restart the tablet, and it will run any app. I've had this tablet for about a year, and I just got my wife the new one. The battery doesn't last as long as many other tablets, but it can be modified by screen brightness, turning wifi off when not in use, etc. I've plugged it into my 55" HD TV, and it looks great. The short battery life and the small storage capacity, of the 16gb version, are the only downsides I've found with this tablet, but there is a 32gb version. I've added a 32gb microSD card.

    Great

After coming out two years ago the Nvidia Shield Tablet is still one of the fastest android tablets out there, it is a great great great value. One issue I've seen reported elsewhere is that the tablet's screen was poor...and it is out of the box. But in the settings you have the ability to tweak: Gamma, Black Level, Contrast, Saturation and Temperature. I've tweaked the screen settings and now my Nvidia shield tablet has a screen comparable (if not better than) the Nexus 7 2013. One issue is the wi-fi, the antenna is by the stylus and if you hold the tablet there it can block the wi-fi. If you're close to your router than this won't be an issue but if you get more then 10 or 15 yards/meters away than it can be an issue, though all you really need to do is flip the tablet around.

    Good value for the money

For the price, you get many features. Its small and portable, has a bright screen, expandable storage, good processor, good sound, etc. The RAM is only 2 GB, but it will do, and for the price, its fine. Due to its name, it also has the nVIDIA apps and the controller, for those that want that. I originally wanted a tablet for drawing but for general use, its fine, too. The sound is good for me and better than my phone, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, which has a tiny speaker in the bottom. Gladly, my phone charger works for it. I'm overall satisfied and do recommend it.

Great tablet! (one very minor flaw... :/)

This tablet has exceeded expectations - exceptional screen resolution, quick processor, and the battery life lasts long (post-recall). This is actually my boyfriend's tablet and he absolutely loves it. He's picky when it comes to tech products, so I was really surprised at how much he liked it - most particularly, how much he loves gaming on it, especially with the controller (which has great features). The only thing flaw my boyfriend mentioned was that he can't mirror the tablet to the TV while he's gaming. Other than that, it's a great tablet! Kind of unfortunate that Nvidia discontinued the 32gb and replaced it with the K1.

Great for single tasks but chokes on inadequate memory for multitasking and ANY notifications

It has a great screen but it is dated in working memory. You can optimize its speed by turning off ALL notifications in all apps. Seriously stomp them all. Maybe also also do not upgrade OS to 7.0 unless you must. Use your other devices for social media - disable all of them on this device or you will throttle its speed.

Great product for a competitive price

This is actually the second shield K1 I have purchased. I use my first one primarily for drone operation and really enjoy the hdmi output for my goggles. The lastest one I use as a portable entertainment device and again the hdmi output works great for my projector and any monitor or tv I encounter.

IT WAS A LONG TIME COMING

The tablet arrived quickly. I set up my accounts on the Shield K1. The updates installed rather quickly. It has a great screen for watching movies and playing games. It's worth every dollar. It's close to perfect.
