How do you clean boys' water shoes?

Just because they're going in and out of the pool doesn't mean that your water shoes won't get dirty. It's easy to clean your shoes and sandals and keep them in tip-top shape. Here are some tips to help maintain your shoes:

  • Remove fasteners and laces if necessary. This will help you reach all of the small spaces that can trap germs and odors in your kids' shoes. Keep track of the pieces so that you can reassemble them after washing.
  • Place the shoes in a clean sink and fill it up with warm water.
  • Add a teaspoon of soap to the sink to help wash away dirt. Dish soap, hand soap, or shampoo will all work without damaging the material.
  • Add half of a cup of baking soda to the sink. This will neutralize odors and keep your water shoes smelling fresh.
  • Use a clean sponge to scrub your sandals. For stubborn stains, add a little more baking soda to the sponge and rub it into the stain.
  • Let the shoes soak for at least a half hour, then drain the sink and rinse them thoroughly.
  • Dry your water shoes with a towel or hang them up to drip dry.

You can keep your kids' footwear clean by rinsing it after every trip to the beach or pool. Fight odors even further by storing the shoes with a sachet filled with baking soda or activated charcoal.
