Thermostats and Parts for Volvo XC90
A Volvo XC90s thermostat is located between the engine and radiator, and it is designed to deliver coolant to the engine when the motor is running. When the Volvos motor is not running, the thermostat prevents the coolant from leaking out of the hoses that circulate it through the engine block. If your XC90 is overheating, it may need a replacement thermostat and related parts so that you can get it back on the road again.
What types of parts work with the thermostat?- Seals: The seals for the thermostat are made of rubber, and they fit around the housing in order to form a tight seal. They also fit around the spring coil that moves when the thermostat detects heat from the motor and sends coolant to the radiator.
- Housing: The housing for the thermostat is made of chrome. These accessories protect and hold the thermostat into place. The chrome resists rust and corrosion.
- Sensor: The sensor is an electrical component. It functions like a real-time probe at sensing heat coming from the Volvo XC90s motor. Its information is relayed to the temperature gauge on the interior instrument panel on your vehicles dashboard, just behind the steering column.
- Select the model year of your Volvo XC90: Choose the trim level of the Volvo XC90, such as performance, and the type of fuel that the Volvos motor uses for power. The different Volvo XC90 car motors have different thermostats and accessories, such as interior temperature gauges.
- Choose just the thermostat or all of the accessories for installation: Choose just a new thermostat for your Volvo or a kit that contains the seals, housing, and sensor. If your interior temperature gauge has gone bad, you may also need to replace it.
- Select a manufacturer: Select Volvo as the original equipment manufacturer for the parts you need for your XC90 standard or XC90 performance vehicle. - Put your Volvo on jacks or ramps and engage the parking brake. Only replace the Volvos thermostat when the motor is cold.
- Place a bucket under the coolant reservoir, loosen the coolant cap to drain the liquid into the bucket, and close the cap.
- Spray or lubricate the bolts for the thermostat housing. Use a wrench to remove the bolts from the Volvos thermostat housing.
- Remove the housing and lift out the thermostat.
- Put the new Volvo thermostat in, replace the housing, and reattach the bolts. Tighten the bolts.
- Open the cap for the coolant and refill it. Tighten the drain valve.
- Turn on the ignition of your Volvo and watch the temperature gauge while the motor runs for a few minutes.
