GMC Sierra 2500 Hub Caps

There are many things that a car can work well without, and hubcaps are one--or four--of them. But like radiator grilles and Xenon projector headlights, beautiful hubcaps make your ride that much sweeter. There are many to choose from for your GMC Sierra 2500.

Are hubcaps beneficial?

Hubcaps actually do other things for your GMC Sierra 2500 besides making it look cool. They protect the wheels from dirt and dust. That indeed was the hubcap’s purpose when it was invented in the 17th century. Nowadays, the hubcap also protects the brakes, bearings, and lug nuts.

What are hubcaps made out of?

Many modern hubcaps are made of steel with a chrome, stainless steel, black, or silver finish. They are also made of polished aluminum and alloy. Hubcap centers made for the Sierra 2500 bear the GMC logo.

What are wheel skins?

Wheel skins are made specifically for the make and model of your GMC Sierra 2500. They are often chrome-plated and easy to install as most come with clips on their outer rim. Take a flathead screwdriver and fasten the mounting clips one at a time to your cars wheel rim. The wheel skin should lie secure and flat against it.

What are wheel rims and wheel covers?

The rim is the part of your car wheel that is enveloped by your tire. The center of the rim is where you would find the hubcap proper. The wheel cover is a sort of enlarged hubcap that covers and protects the wheel, while the hubcap technically only covers the center and the lug nuts.

How do you clean your hubcaps?

Wash your hubcaps at the same time that you wash the rest of your car. It is convenient to do that early in the morning or in the evening. If that’s not possible, put the car in the shade. Washing a car in full sun may affect the finish.

  • Dust your hubcaps with a wet rag as this protects them from scratching the finish.
  • Use the cold water from your gardening hose as opposed to water from a bucket. Use a nozzle with the hose to really loosen the mud from the hubcap. The water in the bucket will get dirty and eventually you will only transfer the dirt back to the hubcap. Use mild dishwashing or car washing detergent.
  • Make sure to attend to the wheel, the tires, and the areas behind the tires that you do not usually see but where dirt can accumulate.
  • Spray the hubcap, then soap it, rinse it, and hose it again to get rid of all the soap. Dry with an old terry cloth towel or a chamois cloth.
  • If your hubcaps have a chrome or silver finish, use a chrome polish. Make sure it doesn’t get on the cars paint because it can discolor it.
