Keys to Have When Buying a Small MP3 Player

Sony makes MP3 player models that are small and portable. Be aware of multiple points when finding a small 512 MB or 1 GB Sony MP3 player.

What Is On the Display Screen?

The display on your Sony Walkman MP3 player can include various details including the time point on an audio file, the name of that file, and specific details on the artist, album, or track name. The display may entail a small visual interface or just a line or two of data that can scroll along. Larger screens can be around an inch in size or a little more.

The display may also feature album artwork, a timer, or a battery power readout feature. Models with the largest screens tend to show the most information.

What Type of Connection Features Should I Look For?

Be aware of how well your MP3 player can connect to different items:

  • Headphone jack. The 3.5mm jack on your player should be accessible to where the headphone cord will not get in the way of the player.
  • Bluetooth support. You may be able to link your player to a stereo system or other device through a wireless Bluetooth connection.
  • Computer link. The connection that links your MP3 player up to a computer should be checked. The link should come with a USB plug on one end to let you connect the player to a computer so you can load up music and audio files. The same connection should also work for a battery if applicable.
  • Radio link. Your Sony player may also double as an FM radio. You can use the same controls on your player to adjust the FM frequency. Some models let you prepare pre-set channels.
  • External storage. Some players support SC cards or other external storage items, thus expanding upon how much audio you can bring with you. You might have to go to a separate menu on your device to access those files but the unit will play them back just like with any other bit of audio.

What About the Battery?

Many small MP3 units from Sony work with rechargeable batteries. You can link your player to a computer to power up the battery through a USB link. The same link may also work on any USB port provided that unit has energy coming out of it.

Meanwhile, some small models may operate off of replacement batteries. You might need a AA battery or two for some units. The display screen on your player should let you know when the battery power on your device is running low. An MP3 player that uses outside batteries will weigh more and have a larger footprint than a smaller one with a rechargeable unit.
