Land Rover Discovery Hoses and Clamps

Your Land Rover Discovery is tough, powerful, and durable enough to explore a variety of challenging terrain, but you need to make sure its parts are in good working condition. Some key parts in your Discovery include its radiator hoses and clamps. Land Rover Discover hoses and clamps may break down over time, and you should know how to find the right replacements for your needs.

Which radiator hoses does a Land Rover Discovery require?

The hoses are an essential component to the radiator system in your vehicle. These parts keep the radiator running efficiently, which in turn, keeps the engine running at a safe and constant temperature. Hoses carry coolant into and out of your Land Rovers radiator, and they are attached to the radiator via clamps. Your vehicle requires upper and lower radiator hoses. The upper radiator hose transfers hot coolant that has been heated by the engine to its radiator. From there, the coolant is cycled through the radiator, which cools it back down. Then the lower radiator hose carries the coolant back to the engine, where it cools the engine and starts the cycle over again.

Keep in mind, that the upper and lower hoses are not interchangeable. If you look at them side by side, you will find that they are different lengths and have a different shape.

What are signs that the hoses need to be replaced?

It is a good idea to replace your Land Rovers radiator hoses every five years or 40,000 miles. If the hoses in your vehicle start to fail, you may notice the following symptoms:

  • Leakage: If you notice coolant (green, yellow, or red fluid) leaking from your SUV, it may be due to a leak in your hoses. This should be addressed immediately.
  • Temperature issues: If the A/C or heater is not working well, it may be a hose problem.
  • Engine overheating: If the hoses are not able to properly carry coolant between the engine and radiator, it may cause overheating of the engine. You may also notice steam coming out of the engine compartment.
  • Bulging or cracking: If you notice these changes to your hoses during inspection, you should look to repair or replace these parts as soon as possible to avoid damage to your luxury vehicle.
What is the difference between OEM and aftermarket hoses?

While searching for replacement hoses and their corresponding clamps, you may come across parts labeled OEM and aftermarket.

  • OEM: This acronym stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, which means the hoses were made by the same company that initially manufactured the parts for the Discovery. OEM parts for your model year are guaranteed to fit your Land Rover.
  • Aftermarket: Aftermarket refers to any other brand that manufactures hoses and clamps for Land Rover cars and trucks. These parts may offer a different aesthetic or slightly different function, but they are still made to fit your automobile as long as they are labeled for your model year.
