Nishiki Vintage Bikes Are Fun on the Road and in Classic Races

Nishiki bikes are quality racing and mountain bikes that were produced by Kawamura in Japan and Giant in Taiwan between the 1960s and the 1990s. These bikes are fun to own as attractive vintage models, and they are also fun to ride and race. You can purchase affordable used vintage Nishiki road bikes on eBay, where you can find many different Nishiki models for sale.

What types of bicycle are vintage Nishiki bikes?

The earliest Nishiki vintage bikes were manufactured in Japan at the Kawamura company and sold in the US. They were first sold under the American Eagle brand name and then under the Nishiki brand name. These bicycle models were primarily racing bikes that were meant to be ridden on the road for either recreational use or for racing on tracks. Racing bikes are also known as road bikes, and they typically feature dropped handlebars that are lower than the saddle. The front and rear wheels are close together, and the gear ratios are closely spaced. Speed and aerodynamics are emphasized over comfort. Vintage racing bicycles, like the Nishiki bikes, are commonly constructed from steel tubing or aluminum and titanium alloys.

Production of the Nishiki brand moved to Taiwan in the 1980s, and the company began producing more mountain and other off-road types of bicycles at Giant of Taiwan. A mountain bike is similar to other bicycles, but it includes features that enhance performance in rough terrains, such as large and knobby tires, powerful brakes, straight handlebars, and lower gear ratios.
