Jeep Wagoneer Window Motors and Parts

The Jeep Wagoneer was Jeep’s first foray into the luxury 4x4 market, with models produced and sold in the United States between 1963 and 1991. During its 28-year run, no significant changes were made to the parts and materials used in the Wagoneer’s production. This means that replacing the Jeep Wagoneer window motors and parts is simple as the parts remained mostly consistent among the models, including in the Grand Wagoneer and the Super Wagoneer.

What is a window motor?

A window motor, also known as a window regulator, is the mechanism that allows you to raise and lower windows automatically in your Jeep Wagoneer vehicle. This mechanism is made up of multiple parts and is integrated with the interior of the Jeeps door, and the only part you see is the button that you click to raise and lower the window. The right front or passenger window and the driver window of the Jeep Wagoneer each have this mechanism. The rear windows are locked in place due to the design of the vehicle’s body.

What parts are in the window of a Jeep Wagoneer?

Window regulators use four major parts with accessories and other parts depending on the Jeep’s model and trim. One of these four parts changes depending on the type of mechanism used in the Wagoneer.

  • Window motor: Although the entire mechanism is referred to as the window motor in the Jeep, there is an actual motor part that powers the window mechanism. This motor uses electrical power to push and pull on various other Jeep window regulator parts.
  • Window gears: One of the two designs of Jeep Wagoneer window regulators is the gear option. In this design, the motor powers gears that are attached to a bracket in the door of the Jeep. This bracket holds the glass of the Jeeps window in place. When the motor is powered, the bracket raises or lowers due to the turning gear. In most Jeep vehicles, including the Wagoneer, a gear assembly is used to power the windows.
  • Window cables: The other potential design for Jeep Wagoneer window regulators is the cable design. This option uses the motor to tighten or loosen two cables that are attached to the aforementioned Jeep bracket. This tightening or loosening of these parts then raises and lowers the Jeeps window bracket. While this is not commonly seen in the Jeep Wagoneer, it is still a viable option if you know how to properly work with various Jeep Wagoneer body and door parts.
  • Electrical connector: Of course, the Jeep Wagoneer window system could not work at all without current to power the motor. The electrical connector performs this job, sending current directly to the motor when necessary. It may also power a light on the button to make it easier to find when riding in the vehicle at night.
  • Interior button: In the luxury interior of the Wagoneer, there is a button that controls the entire operation. The driver or passenger presses up or down on the button to control the motor, allowing the entire Jeep window regulator system to move the window glass to the desired height.
