Jeep Liberty Window Motors and Parts
If you have lived through a brutally cold winter or an equally brutally hot summer, or have needed to drive through a rain or snow shower, you are no doubt grateful for the power windows on your Jeep Liberty. Those firmly shut panes of glass are the difference between a ride that is pleasurable and comfortable and one that is not. Window motors and window regulators are, in many ways, invaluable.
What is a window regulator?A window regulator allows the window to be raised and lowered whether it is powered or manual. However, when the Jeep Liberty window regulator is coupled with a power mechanism, it makes it nearly impossible for the window to be forced open because power windows have worm gears that self-lock when the worm engages the gear. This is a safety feature against theft.
Are there different Jeep Liberty window motors and parts?There is equipment for each window in your vehicle. In some cases, you can buy repair or replacement kits for all four doors. You can also purchase power control switches for the driver’s side door and the passenger doors. Model years that can accommodate these replacement parts include 2008 to 2012. There are also items that can fit model years 2002 to 2006.
One thing to be aware of is the 2006 to 2007 Jeep Liberty vehicles had two types of window regulators installed. It is possible to know which type it was if you know when your Jeep rolled off the factory floor, but you can find out by looking. You will need to take off the door panel and the moisture shield, and if you need a replacement for the rear door, you will need to take off the speaker as well.
The two types of regulators install are clip mount or hole mount. There are front and rear clip mounts and front and rear hole mounts. You will be able to tell the clip mount type because the glass window pane has a metal bracket at the bottom. The pane of the hole mount type doesn’t.
Can you repair and replace your window regulator by yourself?It is possible to replace your window regulator yourself. You will need to remove the door panel cover, the housing, and sheathing. Check the owner’s manual that came with your Jeep Liberty to find out where nuts, bolts, and screws are found. Make sure to store them in a container while you work, so they are easy to find when they need to be put back.
