Transmisión Manual para automóviles y camiones

Complete Car & Truck Manual Transmissions

All motor vehicles carry transmissions. After driving your car or truck for a while, at some point, you will need to repair or replace your transmission. If you hear a clunking or grinding sound, it is time to see a mechanic regarding your transmission.

Are there common signs you need to replace your transmission, both manual and automatic?

The scent of burning fluid indicates you need a complete transmission rebuild.

  • As a driver, if you notice your vehicle is making strange noises, it could be coming from the transmission.
  • Another need for transmission replacement is if it is leaking fluid.
  • Also, if you see your engine or warning light continuously come on, it means you probably need a replacement.
How do you know when to change your transmission fluid?

In general, you would change the fluid on your vehicle every 30,000 miles or every other year. Other reasons to change your fluid include:

  • Seeing greasy liquids on the concrete after parking your vehicle is a sign you need to change your fluid.
  • Hearing a grinding or squeaky sound when you shift into gear is another sign to change fluid.
  • If it is difficult to shift into gear, you need to change your fluid. Your speeds vary regardless if you drive an automatic or a manual transmission.
  • When you see your car speeds backward or forward for no reason, it is time for a fluid change. It will feel as if you have hit the accelerator, but that is not the case.
  • If your manual or automatic transmission is dirty, it will take a while for the vehicle to move after shifting into gear. You will only have a few seconds of delay. It means you need to change your fluid.
What does the torque converter do in an automatic transmission?

The location of the torque converter is between the engine and the vehicles transmission. Its a type of fluid coupling that helps the car to move in different directions. Three parts of the converter include the pump, turbine, and stator.

The pump helps to distribute the fluid in the vehicle. Then, the liquids travel to the blade of the turbine. The transmission spins because of the connected turbine, which causes the vehicle to move. The turbine has curved edges, changing the direction of how the fluids flow.

The stator is in the center of the converter. It changes the direction of the fluid coming from the turbine to stop it from hitting the pump again.

Having a torque converter enables the engine to spin without assistance from the transmission.
