Lenovo Tablets with HDMI: What You Need to Know

HDMI is a type of electronics port that allows high-definition or HD devices, such as televisions and computers, to communicate with one another by transmitting images, video, and sound. Many laptops and tablets, including models by Lenovo, have HDMI ports. This makes Lenovo a good choice for those who like to stream their favorite shows and movies on the go.

What is HDMI?

This technology transmits digital pulses to create a rectangular picture in the 16:9 aspect ratio. This type of transmission allows for a higher resolution than an analog transmission does, allowing viewers to enjoy 1920 x 1080 pixels. HDMI also has a higher refresh rate than comparable transmission methods. It also displays more colors than on an analog screen. The electronics industry has agreed on a set of standards for HDMI so that all devices with this port and cable can communicate with one another.

How does HDMI work?

The image data is sent in the form of digital pulses that are encoded to prevent the loss of information during travel from one device to the next. HDMI can also encrypt data to protect it from piracy. Each home theater device has a chip that gives it a unique ID number. The HDMI protocol has the ability to check for this chip to ensure that the machine receiving the data is legitimate. Manufacturers must have their devices approved and tested to receive permission to use the HDMI logo.

Which Lenovo tablets come equipped with HDMI ports?

While not every Lenovo tab has HDMI capabilities, this type of port is built into a number of its tablet computers. These models include:

  • The IdeaCentre AIO 520S: an all-in-one tablet computer with a 23-inch screen. It has a borderless HD-multitouch display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, Intel 7th Gen Core i7 processor, and Dolby Home Theater components. You can use this tablet computer for gaming, watching movies, and listening to music.
  • The Lenovo 300e is a tab computer designed for classroom use. It features an Active Pen that allows students to draw and take notes digitally on the display.
  • The Flex 5 is a 14-inch Lenovo tab with HDMI capabilities along with a versatile 2-in-1 structure and an HD camera that's optimized for video chat. It's available with up to 128 GB of RAM.

Other Lenovo tablets can be outfitted with HDMI adaptors if this type of functionality is required.
