Gun Racks

Previously relegated to the rear-window mount of pickups, gun racks now come in any number of styles for display or security. Today, gun racks are available for rifles and handguns, and are built to be freestanding vertically, wall mounted, or vehicle mounted. Whatever your need, at home or on the go, there is a gun rack to satisfy it.

What kind of vehicle gun racks are available?

If you want to travel with your gun, you have a few options for your vehicle gun rack.

  • Rear-window display-mount racks for pickup trucks are frequently used.
  • Overhead racks for pickups, jeeps, and SUVs secure your rifles above your head.
  • Seat-back racks, as the name implies, are designed to hold one or more rifles across the back of the front seats.
  • A trunk storage rack secures guns in the trunk, or you can use a locked and covered bed or toolbox in a pickup truck in a stationary position so that the guns remain safe, undamaged, and still readily accessible.

Is a magnetic rack a good idea for your guns?

The magnets in a gun rack will not damage nor will they magnetize gunmetal. They will hold all metal guns securely, including stainless steel. Stainless-steel gun barrels contain enough carbon for a magnetized gun rack to hold them securely.

Will a vertical rotary gun rack remain stable?

Vertical rotary gun racks are rotating floor racks used to keep rifles within easy reach. Rotary vertical racks have weighted bases, which make them useful in moving vehicles. Because the weight of the guns lend extra weight, they are extremely stable.

Are metal hooks useful for holding guns?

Metal hooks and racks come with protective pads or inserts intended to cushion and to protect the finish of the guns. These pads are generally made of foam, rubber, cloth, or felt, and they can soften the impact of the metal hooks on the metal of the guns.

How do you mount a wall rack?

If you are hanging a substantial weight on a relatively fragile wall, such as one made of particle board, plaster, or drywall, you should attempt to drive the anchoring nails or screws into the studs supporting the wall itself. If this is not possible, screw or nail a board across the wall and into the studs, and then anchor the rack into the board. That way, the weight is supported by the studs.
