Lexus Exhaust Systems

A functioning exhaust system can contribute to the proper performance of a Lexus. Specifically, when all the parts work as intended, the emission system operates without any trouble or deficiencies. Components comprising the exhaust unit, however, do wear down and eventually require replacing.

Various components must perform in harmony in order for the system to work at optimal performance levels. Major components include but are not limited to the following:

• Mufflers: Mufflers are designed to cut down, if not eliminate, the noise produced by an engine. The noise comes from the release of pressurized gas through exhaust valves. When mufflers produce sounds of "knocks and pings," this suggests a problem might be present
• Exhaust manifold: Gases come from cylinders in the engine. The manifold collects all those gases and directs them to the Lexus IS250 tailpipe where they can be released.
• Catalytic converter: The catalytic converter plays a vital role in reducing the impact of toxic emissions. The toxicity level of certain gases is reduced once they travel through this part. Carbon monoxide would be one of the main gases impacted by a properly operating CC unit.
• Canister purge valve: Fumes released from the fuel tank can be problematic for the environment. The charcoal canister stores these fumes. The canister purge valve allows for the elimination of fumes from the charcoal canister when the engine runs.

Connected to the manifold, the oxygen sensor keeps track of the unburned oxygen exiting the exhaust system. Data is sent from the sensor to the engine computer in the Lexus. When the oxygen sensor fails to work effectively, performance troubles such as rough idling, hard starting, and more can occur.

Different gaskets may be made from different metals. For example, steel is a common metal used to make the CatConverter unit. Depending on the particular part intended to be fit, it could be made from a composite material as well.

These are dual stainless steel pipes that make up part of the exhaust system. Instead of exiting the Lexus through one pipe, the exhaust exits through two. Please be aware that not all the exhaust system kits with dual pipe kits fit convertible models, so it’s always recommended to check compatibility when choosing.
