Condensadores y evaporadores para Dodge Ram 3500

Dodge Ram 3500 Condensers and Evaporators

Thanks to the wonders of science, no trip in your Ram 3500 ever needs to be hot or uncomfortable. Your air conditioning system is designed to keep the passenger compartment of your vehicle at the perfect temperature.

What are the components of the air conditioning system?
  • Compressor: Located at the front of the vehicle behind the grille and above the tires, the compressors purpose is to put the refrigerant, which is in the form of a gas, under pressure. This process compresses the refrigerant to approximately 250 psi and causes the temperature of the refrigerant to increase.
  • Condenser: Similar to a radiator, the condenser takes in the refrigerant compressed by the compressor and converts it from gas to liquid. This process removes the heat from the refrigerant.
  • Evaporator: Another critical component, the evaporator in your Ram 3500 pulls the refrigerant into a vacuum, causing it to become extremely cold.
  • Thermal expansion valve: The thermal expansion valve changes the refrigerant from high pressure to low. This effectively changes the temperature from hot to cold.
  • Accumulator: The accumulator works to eliminate harmful moisture from the rest of the system. By constantly drying the other components it avoids the formation of ice crystals which can damage your trucks air conditioning unit.
What are the symptoms of the condenser failing?
  • Noticeably reduced cooling: The most obvious symptom is that the air conditioning unit in your Ram 3500 is not nearly as effective as it once was. Any sort of restriction or damage to the condenser will restrict the flow of refrigerant. This can cause the other parts to work less efficiently as well and limit an AC systems ability to cool the air in your Ram.
  • Noticeable leaks: Another obvious sign that your trucks condenser may have failed is the presence of a notable leak of refrigerant. Condensers can wear over time, leaving cracks that can turn into leaks. Once a leak has formed, it is only a matter of time before the refrigerant leaks out entirely. Without refrigerant, the system is effectively useless for a Dodge Ram 3500, 3500 SLT, or 3500 Laramie.
How can you tell if the evaporator is leaking?

Most of the components in the AC system of your Dodge Mega Cab diesel truck are easily located within the body of the Ram 3500. However, the evaporator is located in the housing of the engine making it much harder to see or reach. This location makes it much harder to see or notice refrigerant leaks originating from the evaporator. The most effective way to find a leak is to use ultraviolet dye and a lamp system. This method adds an ultraviolet dye to your pickups refrigerant. If a leak is present, you will be able to see the location of it using the lamp system as the ultraviolet dye will glow under the light of the lamp.
