How To Select a 9-10.9 Inch Tablet

Since the launch of the first iPad in 2010, tablets have become very popular. Some of the electronics manufacturers producing tablets include Samsung, Apple, Amazon, Lenovo, and Windows. Different tablets run on different operating systems. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab A are Android tablets. The Apple iPad runs on iOS. The Microsoft Surface and Lenovo Yoga tab come with Windows 10 operating system, while the Amazon Fire HD runs on Amazon Fire OS.

What Features Do 10 Inch Tablets Come With?

  • Storage capacity - the internal storage is measured in GB and it indicates how much data such as photos, videos, and other files the tab can store. Storage can vary from 16 GB and up to 512 GB. The larger the capacity the more data you will be able to save.
  • Processor - just as in laptops, the tablet processor is responsible for running all operations on your device. Processors can have multiple cores, meaning they can execute multiple operations simultaneously. There are Dual-core, Triple-core, Quad-core, and Octa-core processors.
  • RAM - the term stands for Random Access Memory and is expressed in GB. It is temporary memory where data and operations currently in use reside. A tablet with 16 GB RAM will perform faster than a 4 GB one.
  • Screen size - tabs come with various screen sizes. A 10 inch tablet is pretty accommodating to any task. Screen size is measured in inches diagonally from the top right to the bottom left.
  • Cameras - most tablets come with both front-facing and rear-facing HD cameras. The front-facing camera is most commonly used for selfies and video calls, and thus it requires lower resolution that the rear-facing one.

How Can I Use The Internet On My Tablet?

There are two ways to use your 10 inch tablet for data-requiring tasks such as checking your email and browsing the Internet.

  • Cellular service - some tablets come with a SIM card slot, which allows them to be used with a cellular service provider such as T-Mobile or AT&T.
  • Wi-Fi hot spot - Wi-Fi only tablets have no SIM card slots. They can only be used for Internet browsing and other data tasks when in a Wi-Fi hot spot.

What Accessories Should I Consider?

  • Protective case - tablets are expensive but fragile devices. If you are prone to accidents, a protective case may be a good idea.
  • Keyboard case - if you are planning on typing a lot on your tab, using an external keyboard would be easier than the onscreen one.
  • Stylus pen - this pen-like device will help you tap with more precision and comfort, while avoiding fingerprint smudges on your screen. There are models compatible with iPads and Android tablets.
